Over 100 jobs are set to go this month, with the closure of a major department store in Eastbourne town centre.
Debenhams closes its doors in two weeks time, after almost half a century in the town.
The Eastbourne store will be one of the 22 stores nationwide that will have to close this month after a failed £200 million take-over bid by Sports Direct.
People buying more online as well as Business rates and rent payments for the Eastbourne site of over £1.2 million per year have been blamed for the closures.
But some local residents have said that they have little sympathy for the store as they felt that the store was too expensive and offered a limited range. But others who have shopped in Debenhams all of their lives are disappointed that it is closing.
It’s a major town centre retail site and it’s not known yet what will replace it.
