John Cole's collection “Generations, Hastings’ Fishing Families”

The collection of photos began in 1992 when Cole came to Hastings to document the fishing community.

The photos were submitted to the exhibition through local MP Amber Rudd.

The photos have an emphasis on the family connections in the fishing community.

Cole is also documenting the women of the fishing community who he say are “rarely recognised for all the work they do” towards keeping the industry thriving in town.

Peter Chowney, deputy leader of Hastings Borough Council and chair of Hastings FLAG (Fisheries Local Action Group) says that these photos will “help raise the profile of our fishing industry”.
