The 28-year-old grandmaster won a cash prize of £2000 by winning all but two of his games.
The last match finished with a mild draw leaving him with eight out of a possible nine points.
Keith Arkell and Jonathan Hawkins were the highest placed English contestants finishing in equal 5th place.
Broadcaster spoke to a former contestant who travelled all the way from the US Virgin Islands to watch the event, and warned that the town needs to everything it can to ensure the future of this historic competition.
