Residents of Hastings are being warned not to leave valuables in their cars.

Since the start of the year, seven drivers have reported to Hastings Police that their personal items have been stolen from inside their vehicles.

Police have said car owners should take necessary precautions to lock valuables out of sight. Inspector Dan Russell said: “This type of theft is usually carried out by opportunist thieves. Sometimes an intent thief will search beneath seats and inside glove boxes thinking they will find something worth stealing. The ring marks left by a windscreen sat nav or phone holder can be an indication to a thief that there may be something in the car to take."

In previous campaigns about car safety, taking extra care when choosing a place to park, somewhere that is well lit with CCTV, and double-checking before you leave, are precautions we need to take to ensure your vehicle and possessions are safe.
