The Showmaster’s company, in charge of hosting a number of events, has, for the first time ever, been in charge of organising the yearly Comicon event, a fan orientated showcase exclusively created for comic book enthusiasts. Comicon, a yearly encounter for fans, showcases characters based on popular comic books and films.
The convention, which took place in Brighton this weekend welcomed from all over the UK visitors who travelled across country to attend this globally acquainted event.
Despite Comicon’s previous locations having included Brighton in the past, Showmaster’s, who took over this year, hosted the event in the lavish Hilton Hotel. However the hosts admitted they were a little ‘apprehensive’ about bringing the event to the seaside town; but attendee’s seemed blown away by the overall organisation of the weekend, making it an all-round success in 2015.
One comic enthusiast claimed that the event was‚ ‘much bigger than [I] expected’ adding: ‘It’s much better than some other Comicon’s I have been to, it’s more open and well laid out.’
One visitor placed a particular interest on the day’s schedule by noticing the ‘interesting lectures’, adding: ‘I cannot wait for the Cosplay competition.’ Every element of the weekend seemed to have been taken into consideration and well appreciated by the guests.
The first day of the event included a variety of different activities including but not limited to lectures by American Actor and musician James Masters and British actor John Hurt, as well as Autograph signing sessions with Star Wars actor Kenny baker who played the R2D2 robot, various guest meet and greets and a cosplay competition, which involves many dressing up in costumes of their chosen comic-book or film character.
Over a hundred people entered the Cosplay competition, with Princess Leia singlehandedly stealing the show with her hand-made costume. Runners up included Zelda and the Hocus Pocus Witches.
Another of the famous guests included star of the Dr. Who series Sophie Aldred, who shared her views on the opening event: ‘I love being in Brighton for a start, it’s nice being by the sea.’ The actress remarked that she was especially enjoying her seaside visit, which was a contrast to her many previous common outings. She continued by stating that she would be attending the next Showmaster’s Comicon.
All things considered it is safe to say Showmaster’s pulled this one off and will be returning to a cyber space near you next year.
