Although inmates in local prisons have remained tame this week, there have still been incidents in jails in other parts of the country.

For the third week running there has been a serious disturbance in a prison near Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Riot officers rushed to break up an incident at HMP Moorland, the same prison sex offender and footballer Adam Johnson is service his sentence.

The incident began Sunday evening and took several hours to regain control, resulting in one inmate being injured. A prison spokesperson said that specially trained staff resolved the disturbance which involved a forty prisoners on one wing of the jail.

The riot comes days after figures revealed 400 incidents in UK prisons had been reported in just nineteen days, with thirty of these being assaults on prison officers. The riot took place days after over 10,00 protesting police officers stopped working over health and safety fears.
