A pedestrian has died after being knocked down by a driver who was being chased by police.
Sussex police officers are still on the hunt for a hit and run driver, after the victim was pronounced dead at the scene on Tuesday night. The driver’s car was found abandoned near Concorde 2 music venue in Brighton.
Police first tried to stop the car around 10pm in Bear Road, before it killed the pedestrian just minutes later in the St James’s Street area. Large sections of Old Steine are still shut off today, as the investigation is ongoing, with crime officers arriving to carry out examinations.Matt Webb, the chairman of the Sussex Police Federation, said, “We, as police, don't stop vehicles on the spur of the moment. Something would have happened, that would have brought that vehicle to the attention of the police officers. This is a tragic set of circumstances, whenever anyone loses their life in an incident like this.”
