The Cycle path on the Hasting Promenade is being removed. A layer of white dust covers its surface.

Access is restricted with red tape blocking many of the entrances and exits, making the lane unusable.

The company doing the works County Clean refused to comment on how long it will take. The long-term plan is still unknown.

The area in question is in need of maintenance with loose tiles and faded lines in the cycle lane.

The council is yet to confirm the future of one of the town’s most used cycle path, only that is out of action for now.

Whether this is the first step in a plan for improvement or the removal of this public byway remains unknown. For now, it poses a literal obstacle for local residents, cyclists and commuters.

With recent development on the foreshore it is clear the council has plans for this picturesque promenade.

The fitting of new lights in Bottle Alley and the addition of the new kiosk, point to the possibility of this being another stepping stone in the bid to renovate this historic town.
