Public Support for police officer has warned in recent years according to the chairman of the Met Police Federation. Ken Marsh who represents thousands of police officers around the UK, says: “The average constable doesn’t hold the same authority. When I was a child, you didn’t dare blink at a police officer.”
He had spoken out today, in light of a recent viral video that shows two police officers locked in a violent struggle with hooded thugs on a street.
Kicked, dragged and beaten, meanwhile bystanders watch and record from the safety of their vehicles. According to Marsh; the police should have more support from the public. He says: “We don’t come to work to get assaulted and, if we’re not going to be backed up in what we’re doing, then what is the point?”
The hashtag and slogan “protect the protectors” has been used to speak out online against the violence on emergency service workers.
Marsh is due to speak on the matter at 2pm today at Leading Britain’s Conversation, a radio show.
