Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has said in London today that he would seek global disarmament and "reshape" relations with the US if elected.

Despite his party backing the renewal of Trident, the country's nuclear arms programme, Corbyn said that he would never order its first strike.

Corbyn, a former chairman of the Stop The War Coalition, said that he has campaigned for a more peaceful world all his life, and still believes the interests of the UK are best served by seeking peace over war.

He said that if he is elected as Prime Minister, he will do "everything necessary to protect the safety and security of our people and our country", stressing that "that is our first duty".
