Dogs Trust have revealed that 127 dogs were abandoned following Christmas, the highest number on record.  This sad reality comes at a 54% increase on that of last year, with the charity receiving more than 1000 calls with owners claiming that they could not cope with their new pets.

Dogs Trust Manchester Manager, Dawn Bishop suggested that social media could be to blame for this  drastic increase: “in this day and age, where puppies are readily available at the click of a button, people are still choosing to purchase a dog on impulse, without thinking about the long-term effect this will have on their life.”
